Hi, I have the opportunity to either buy a pitted sako 75 and rebarrel in .270 or buy a new gun. Something like a tikka t3x with hunter stock. Both work out around the 1k mark. The sako comes with a wild cat mod and has seen little use and will be resin bedikaded in the price. Whats your thoughts. Tom. Beretta owns Tikka and Sako. Both are excellent guns and are one the high end scale of things. If you have the money the Sako is in my opinion clearly better. If you hold the two side by side there is a slight difference in quality. The sako just seems to have bee made a little nicer than the Tikka.Tikka. Tikkas are made in Finland, owned by Sako, and use Sako barrels - some of the best factory barrels ever made. These guns are made and designed by Finnish guys that know hunting., We do not make a dedicated lefty Tikka T3 chassis, but we have designed our Whiskey-3 and X-Ray T3 chassis so that a decent gunsmith can make the modification easily. The Tikka is a nice rifle and price point, about half the price of a Sako. If price is no issue, then go for the Sako.
I have read many satisfied reviews on TIKKA's and SAKO's and I can't remember anymore than one dis-satisfied review for either. The differenc between the TIKKA and the SAKO being some internal quality such as plastic vs metalic parts and SAKO's and TIKKA's aren't quite as *good lookin* as SAKO's. Tikka is introducing a new Rimfire rifle, the Tikka T1x. It features a medium-contour 20″ barrel with 1/2x28 threaded muzzle, 10-round detachable magazine, and a smooth bolt throw. I'm a pretty big Tikka T3 fan - have run a few - and they are crazy accurate with most everything (least finicky rifle I've ever messed with), light, well balanced with good beef in the barrel, slick action, superb Sako trigger adjustable for weight with an allen wrench without even removing the stock (and no creep - break like glass), barrels are Sako also - and accuracy shows it.
